My Easy Stay Organized Tip

Women now a day wear many different hats.  It’s not a new thing; really, women have always juggled children, marriage, friends, business, cleaning, managing schedules and taxi service to all the kids in sports, clubs, lessons and dr. appointments!  I think it is just more complicated now with the speed of technology and media and all the distractions that can get in the way of keeping a life simple – if that’s even possible!  I have chosen to make good use of technology as a tool to communicate and stay in touch with others and keep records, notes and my courses organized without the paperwork.  I still like my daily neon post it lined pad to make a visible summary of my day ahead……but there are applications for our phones and computers and tablets that can even do that.
With technology today rapidly changing – we have pros and cons.    Sometimes if we are not careful, we can waste a lot of time on computers.  Whereas a short hand-written note is quicker!  So to figure out what is useful, quicker and helpful to stay organized!  A vast amount of resources and apps to choose from to help our lives become managed and organized without the 5 pound calendar agenda book and sticky notes….haha yes – I used to carry around with me my 5+pound organizer!  Until one day I was enlightened (forever more) and introduced to technology!  I’ll never forget how excited I was when a ministry creative artist young man said to me “Mrs. Kosti – you have got to get a Palm Pilot and get rid of that stack of paperwork in your heavy day timer! Come on we’ll show you.”  And off to the mall we took the ministry team for a short afternoon break to the local mall.  My life was changed forever more!  I didn’t pay full price for my first piece of technology but found just what I needed at the pawn shop for $50!  That was back in March 2001 – almost 14 years ago now and I will never look back as I move forward to make use of free technology applications and resources.  Keeping up with the times is important benefit to be able to communicate with the business world, youth who are engulfed in a world of media, film, music and the speed of touch screens!  Pretty soon a pen and pencil could be a thing of the past!  Forever……?  It reminds me of the Netflick series ‘Fringe’.  Pens were not ever used by the new generation – if they found a pen they knew someone was there from the other world!   Wow that’s how I feel sometimes – I am stuck between two worlds – moving ahead and staying with what is valuable and worth holding onto!  Like manners, social etiquette, how to use social media and yet still build real relationships that talk and respond.  So many issues that just go unmentioned any more…….ending conversations by simply disappearing and not responding!  That is a pet peeve of mine……no closure of a conversation.  It’s ok in some instances.  But I still ‘appreciate knowing if someone has left their computer and gone on to go grocery shopping or if they are finishing their response!  Ok enough of my peeves for today……let’s move on to my Technology tip!

My tip I’d like to share with you is my new found use of a computer, phone and tablet application called ‘Evernote’.  Its amazing features are so complex and free!  Unless you want to go to premium benefits which still are only a few dollars a month or $19.99 per year.  That adds on more presentation features you can make use of.    Some of you may already use this – but I have many women who I teach some basic skills to which are helpful for getting around on their computer and how-to’s!  So let me show you this screen shot.  I love it because I can type up my notes, reminders, letters, journals, anything – and sync it to all my devices.  So then when I am waiting and want to add to my note or document – I can access it from my phone and it all syncs and updates everywhere.  I can even share the file, send a link, or email the document!  Add voice memos, photographs, web clips etc.  I can send my projects to my volunteers, and husband to get their feedback and input.  I really like the layout of it all.

I am using Evernote now for my daily journal.  I keep one for my personal writings and another for the Ministry events and daily happenings.  I even keep a ‘Fashion Journal’ so I know what I wore, when and to what meeting or event.  It helps me keep track of my wardrobe and accessories so I don’t happen to wear the exact same outfit to the same course each day I am teaching, or events and my appointments! - a handy resource! From short lists to lengthy research, no matter what form your writing takes, Evernote keeps you focused on moving those ideas from inspiration to completion – a handy resource! I hope this tech tip is helpful to you!  Let me know if you use it, or if there is anything you have a question on!  I’m not an expert, but I love learning and am very practical, teaching women how to make their everyday life easier with the resources that are available to us.

Have a great day and make every minute count!  It matters!  :) You make a difference in the lives of all around you!
